BSA Climbing Instructor Training
Participants will enjoy two weekends (second weekend is May 3-5 attendance at both weekends is mandatory) of classroom and hands-on training, including instruction in Climbing Technique, Safety Considerations, Gear Selection and Care, Group Instruction and Route Selection and Set-Up. These topics will be presented by experienced members of the council climbing committee.
The first weekend will focus on classroom sessions in Oregon City. The second weekend will be hands-on skills at Horsethief Butte.
Persons age 16 and 17 are able to attend with a paying adult, but only those 18 and up are eligible to receive a training card as a BSA Climbing Instructor. Upon successful completion of this course, individuals satisfactorily demonstrating their instructional, management and anchoring skills will receive a training card as a "BSA Climbing Instructor". A training card will be granted at the successful completion of the course, and with the approval of training staff.
