Interviews start the first weekend of February

Cascade Pacific Council hires 300 enthusiastic camp staff annually to serve at our overnight camps throughout Northwest Oregon.

Full time, seasonal staff and area directors are needed for many positions:

  • Scout skills instructors
  • Lifeguards
  • Trading post managers
  • Facilities maintenance
  • Food service staff
  • Climbing, mountain biking, and adventure staff 
  • Shooting sports supervisors (archery, BB gun, .22 caliber rifle, skeet, and black-powder)
  • Handicraft
  • Natural sciences
  • Horse wranglers

Age 15 may serve in volunteer ‘Staff in Training’ roles at resident camps.
Age 16 and older may serve as paid staff members at resident camps.

Some staff leadership positions are limited to those over 18, 21, or 25 years old.

Why Should I Apply For Camp Staff?

Interviews

Interviews typically begin in February, though applications may be submitted at any time, and some area directors may be hired earlier. All staff and volunteers interview with our Camp Managers. Applications are online only and should be completed before arriving to interview. 

Age & Other Requirements

Due to federal and state employment laws and BSA National Camp Standards, there are minimum ages for applicants:

Age 15 by June 15: can serve at overnight camps (Baldwin, Meriwether, Pioneer, NYLT, Butte Creek, Camp Cark) in a volunteer (unpaid) staff-in-training position only. This is a fantastic way to get your foot in the door for a full-time position next summer.

Age 16 by June 15: can serve in any camp as a full time, paid staff in one of many positions.

Age 18 by June 15: can serve in any camp as a full time, paid staff in one of many positions, including management positions with a minimum age of 18 such as bb-gun director, archery director, health officer, commissioner, ecology/conservation director, and others.

Age 21 by June 15: can serve in any camp as a full time, paid staff in one of many positions, including management positions with a minimum age of 21 such as program director, head cook, aquatics director, horseback riding director, chaplain, shooting sports director, climbing director, and others.

Age 25+ by June 15: can serve in any camp as a full time, paid staff in one of many positions, including camp director. Camp directors are selected in October for the following year.

Membership Requirement

Prior to camp, all summer camp staff, whether volunteer or paid, must be current members of Crew 808 of Boy Scouts of America. An applicant over age 18 must apply as an adult and successfully pass a criminal background check.

Training Requirements

Cascade Pacific Council camp staff members must provide proof of completion of several online trainings prior to arriving at camp. The details for each are listed below as well as links to their online portions at the bottom of the page. For all staff, much of the first week of employment is devoted to on-site training. Some area directors are required to attend pre-camp courses to be certified in their area of expertise. 

For online training be sure to fill out all registration information. Upon completion, a copy of each certificate must either be uploaded to WorkBright or printed and brought to camp. You will not be able to work for any camp unless proof of all required training is confirmed by your camp’s management team.

  • Youth Protection Training – Completion of Youth Protection Training is required of all camp staff, paid and volunteer.  The links to this training can be found through the My.Scouting.org training portal.
  • Hazardous Weather Training – Completion of Hazardous Weather training is required of all camp staff, paid and volunteer.  The links to this training can also be found through the My.Scouting.org training portal under Program Safety.
  • Unlawful Harassment Training – Completion of Unlawful Harassment training is required of all paid camp staff members. Volunteers do not need to complete this training.  The link will redirect you to the online provider of this training.
  • Oregon Food Handlers Training – Completion of Oregon Food Handlers training is required for all food service personnel at resident camps.  The link will redirect to the Oregon Food Handlers website. The cost for this training is $10 and only payable online through that service.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Training – Half of all staff at a camp will need to have First Aid/CPR/AED training from the American Red Cross or a similar agency. Contact your camp director to see if you will need training and the dates, locations, and costs for the training at your camp.  If you are currently certified in First Aid/CPR/AED please let your camp director know immediately so they can reduce the planned attendance of any training they may set up prior to camp.
  • National Camping School – Program area directors (Nature, Campcraft, Shooting Sports, Aquatics, Climbing, Program and Camp Directors) need to hold current certifications in their area of expertise. National Camping School provides the needed training and certification for these important roles. This one week training is provided for our staff hired for these positions. Certifications are good for five years, and Camping Schools are held throughout the year to meet your schedule.
Available Positions

Camps are seeking staff members for numerous positions, including these:

Resident Camp Program Staff Members (ages vary) – assist area directors in providing quality learning opportunities for campers, and assist with general program and camp operations throughout each session. APPLY HERE

Shooting  (18 BB’s/Archery. 21+ Rifle/Shotgun) – Our shooting sports staff instruct campers in a variety of shooting sports in a program that has a strong emphasis on safety, and fundamentals of shooting. APPLY HERE

Camp Cook (age 21+) – manage foodservice operations and provide outstanding meals to campers and staff.  Minimum food handlers card, preferable to have Food Manager Certification such as FoodSafe.  APPLY HERE

Camp Medic (age 18+, requires medical training) – provide health services to campers and staff.  Must be an EMT, Paramedic, RN, LPA, Physician, PN, NATA trainer, Wilderness First Responder, or Military Corpsman.  APPLY HERE

Summer Ranger (age 21+) – manage maintenance projects in camp during the summer, working with an assigned year-round ranger to carry out planned projects.  Work with adult leaders in camp who wish to work on service projects for the camp.  Ensure the safety of equipment and facilities for campers and staff.
