Wood Badge is designed to meet the advanced training needs of
Scouters. Today's Wood Badge course brings together Scouters from all walks of life and
from all BSA programs--Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting and Venturing, as well
as district and council leaders.
Prospective participants must be fully committed to the Scout Oath and Law and have
successfully demonstrated good Scouting spirit. The course is a group experience, and
success is dependent upon the cooperative attitude of all concerned.
Each Scouter invited to participate in Wood Badge training must have successfully
completed Fast Start Leader Training and Basic Leader Training appropriate to their
position (Venturing, Varsity, Boy Scouts or Cub Scouts), and should have a working
knowledge of the Scouting program.
Scouters attend Wood Badge only by invitation of the president of the council in which
they are registered, upon the recommendation of the district training chairman, district
commissioner, and district executive. Scouters do not need to secure these approvals
before completing an application, but should be aware that their application will be
forwarded to these people for approval.
