What is Pow Wow?
Pow wow is a one-day supplemental Cub Scout leader training extravaganza! It goes beyond New Leader Essentials Training for Cub Scouting adults, providing ideas and how-tos in a wide variety of topics.
Pow wow is the event of the year to renew knowledge, learn current policies, and share experiences in Scouting. All Cub Scouting adults are invited and encouraged to attend. There will be something for everyone at this, the biggest Cub Scout training event of the year!
(See our Training Page for details on the training plan for adult leaders)
How do I sign up for Pow Wow?
It would be a good idea to look at the class descriptions and class schedule first and map out which classes you want to take with a couple alternatives and then head on-line to create your schedule!
Class sessions are limited in size and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Register early for best choices.
Registration MUST be entered on-line no later than October 24 in order to be considered pre-registered and receive the Early-Bird discount off the fee. This includes on-site registration on the morning of Nov. 15th.
On-site registrations will be accepted; however you will be limited to what classes are available. We strongly encourage everyone to pre-register so that we can best serve you and fit you into classes that interest you.
How Much Does it cost to attend Pow Wow?
The base fee for this fantastic event was $20.00, with an Early-Bird discount of $5.00 and we expect it to be similar in 2008. Fee includes event registration, lunch, souvenir patch, and resource CD. Some classes carry a craft supply fee of $3.00. Extra CDs are available for $5.00.
When and Where is Pow Wow?
Pow wow will be held Saturday, November 15, 2008.

Cub Camp Sign-ups
Pow Wow is the first opportunity for your Pack to sign up for the 2009 Cub camping season! There will be more details on how to register and official summer registration materials mailed to Cubmasters and committee chairmen and presented at Roundtables in October and November. Plan ahead and have forms completed and monies collected (only $10 per boy as deposit) prior to November 15th.. We will begin accepting camp reservations at Pow Wow. No reservations will be processed before that day.
Pow-Wow CD Pow wow features a jam-packed resource CD as part of the registration fee. The CD contains a collection of handouts from this year’s instructors and common Scouting forms. This allows you to take home notes from the whole event in one packet, and is a great resource for your den and pack!
By providing a CD (rather than a printed book), we have been able to cut the Pow wow registration fee in half and also provide lots more support material than previously possible. For those who do not have a computer, the CD can be accessed at local public libraries, fellow Cub leaders’ or friends’ computers.
Display Area:Not only are there classes at Pow-Wow, but there’ll be a number of outside organizations sharing opportunities for den and pack activities. Visit the Display Area to get information for activities such as OMSI, Forestry Center, and more (actual organizations may vary). Also get information here about summer camp, product sales for fundraisers, and other programs.
Joint Registrations:As much as we would like to meet requests to put people in the same class, it is very difficult to do so. Reservations are handled individually, on a first-come, first-served basis. Although we will try to do so, we cannot guarantee that individuals with identical class selections will be given the same schedule. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
On-Site Registration: Registrations will be accepted on-site, but we strongly advise pre-registration. Pre-registering is invaluable to volunteer Pow wow staff as they plan for the event, and also ensures that you get the classes that most interest you.
Class Schedules: You will create your class schedule as part of the on-line registration process. You will select the classes you want to take and can see the availability as you register. You will print out your schedule as you finish the registration process. Be sure to bring a copy of this schedule with you on the morning of November 15, 2008.
What to Wear and Bring: Wear your uniform and comfortable shoes, perhaps a light sweater. Bring a bag or daypack to carry handouts and other trophies and trinkets you pick up. Many people bring cameras or tape recorders. At the very least, bring a notepad and pencil.
Refund Policy : A 75% refund will be issued if written (fax or email) cancellation and request for refund is received at the Portland Service Center by Oct. 24, 2008. After Oct. 24, the fee is non-refundable, but you can transfer your registration to another adult. For those who pay but do not attend, the CD will be mailed to the address used on the registration form.
