What is a podcast?
A podcast is like a radio show, but one you can listen to any time you like. The term podcasting does derive its name from Apple's iPod, but you don't need to use an iPod to listen to a podcast. Listeners subscribe to a podcast and automatically receive new audio-shows, listening at their convenience. Shows can be played with a computer, iPod, or any MP3 player.
A Podcast is published on a subscription (usually free) basis and the content is automatically downloaded onto the subscribing computer. When the publisher updates the podcast with a new episode, the subscription is updated and the new episode is automatically downloaded through the podcast onto all subscribing computers. This allows subscribers to receive content directly from the publisher automatically.
Do I need an iPod to listen?
