Congratulations on your election to the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honor Society. Your fellow Scouts have recognized you as a leader who is dedicated to cheerful service. You should be proud that you are a candidate for the Order of the Arrow. However, you aren't a member yet. Below is information about how you can become a member in the OA, and what you can expect in the induction process. We look forward to meeting you at the Ordeal weekend of your choice, and after completion welcoming you as a member of Wauna La-Mon'tay, but more importantly the Order of the Arrow!
After being elected or nominated, candidates may participate in a call-out ceremony to recognize those scouts and scouters that were selected before they attend their Ordeal. The call-out ceremony may be performed at summer camp, a camporee, a call-out weekend or at a troop or team meeting. A call-out is simply a public way of showing that you have been elected to the Order of the Arrow. You do not need to go through a Callout to attend an Ordeal.
Your election is simply a starting point, for your journey is just beginning. The next step is to complete an induction ceremony, or Ordeal where you will learn more about brotherhood, cheerfulness, and service. At the end of the Ordeal after learning about yourself and your abilities, you will be a member of the Order of the Arrow.
You should be prepared to spend a night outside on Friday and be ready to spend the day working around camp on Saturday. Please make sure you bring a sleeping bag, a ground tarp, a water bottle, and weather approriate cloths to your Ordeal. You should also bring some work clothes and work gloves for Saturday and a complete class-A uniform which you will wear on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Plan to arrive at the camp dining hall by 7:00 p.m. on Friday night of the ordeal weekend so that we may start promptly. You should bring something for dinner or eat before you arrive. As always dress according to the weather, and remember to bring rain gear becuase we do live in Oregon. Praticpants may be picked up either Saturday night or Sunday morning, just remember to check-out. You must stay until after the Feast on Saturday.
