SELECTION PROCESS:
The council forms a Silver Beaver Selection Committee, comprised of Silver Beavers selected from a variety of districts.  Members of this committee carefully review all recommendations, measuring each to national guidelines:
“The Silver Beaver Award is made for noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth by registered Scouters, Cub Scouters, Varsity Scouters, and Venturing leaders within the territory under the jurisdiction of a local council.”  “Nominations will not be considered for former professional Scouters or council employees within five years of their leaving employment with BSA…this award is limited to adults 21 years of age or older.”     Advancement Committee Policies and Procedures manual (33088d) Pg47.
The number of Silver Beaver awards presented is based upon the number of units the council serves:
“Each duly chartered local council shall be entitled to one nomination. Councils having more than 60 units shall be entitled to further nominations on the basis of one for each additional 60 units or fraction thereof in their territory, as of December 31 preceding the nomination…” Rules and Regulations of the Boy Scouts of America book (57-492) Article X, Section 6, Clause 3(f).

The Silver Beaver Selection Committee’s recommendations are sent to the national office of Boy Scouts of America for approval before the awards are presented at the annual Council Court of Honor.

The Silver Beaver Award was established in 1931 and is presented for distinguished service to young people within a local Boy Scouts of America Council. It is the highest National award which may be presented by a local council. A recipient must be a registered adult member of the Boy Scouts of America. The Cascade Pacific Council salutes the commitment and hard work of these Scouters!

Annually, volunteers nominate men and women who are doing an outstanding job as Scouters for the Silver Beaver Award. These nominations are reviewed by the Council Awards Committee each year, and the most outstanding men and women are selected to receive this special recognition.

The committee welcomes all nominations and encourages you to recommend those Scouters you believe worthy of this high honor at any time.
