([ Portland], [Or], [06/02/04])— The Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America will honor racing champions and local personalities who strive to make the Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland a successful event at the Motorsports Breakfast June 17 at 7:30 a.m., held at the Oregon Convention Center. Andrew Firestone will be accepting the Motorsports Company of the Year Award on behalf of Bridgestone. Through Nealy’s leadership over 10,000 spectators attend the checkered flag event, which translates into a $12 million economic impact to the Portland metro area each year.

The Rolla Vollstedt Award will be presented to Harold Sperb who helped pioneer Track Roadster racing in the Pacific Northwest and built a winning Gordon Johncock Indianapolis 500 racecar in 1982.

The Chairman’s Award will be received by Market Transport, Ltd., a locally owned, full-service, asset based logistics provider and a proud supporter and sponsor of the motorsports event.

An official Portland Rose Festival sanctioned event, the Motorsports Breakfast is expected to attract a crowd of more than 600 people. Attendees of the event will have the opportunity to get up close and personal to award winners and have the opportunity to meet the Champ Car drivers listed above. Corporate tables and advertisements in the program are also available. Tickets ($65 each) to the Motorsports Breakfast are available at the Boy Scout office, 2145 SW Naito Parkway in Portland. Now in its fifteenth year, the breakfast event will kick off the Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland. Event proceeds help support local Scoutreach efforts. The mission of Scoutreach is to partner with organizations that are dedicated to serving diverse youth in communities that are challenging to reach because of cultural, lingual, and socio-economic issues. In fact, proceeds from this event have provided more than $300,000 to the local council over the past thirteen years, resulting in an opportunity to provide the Scouting advantage to over 7,000 at-risk kids each year.

Photos available of racecar drivers and award recipients upon request.

Media representatives may attend event free of charge. RSVP to Sherry McVey by noon June 15 by calling 503-225-5704.
