Organization Profile
Founded in 1916, the Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America, serves Oregon and Southwest Washington. More than 50,000 boys and girls participated in its programs during 2004.
Scouting’s Outreach Programs
While Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting remain a part of the American tradition for many, not all children have equal access to the program. The Cascade Pacific Council places an ever-increasing emphasis on reaching under-served youth with non-traditional programs. In 2003, over 3,400 young people participated in outreach programs, such as in-school programs for boys and girls from elementary through high school ages, violence-free spring break activities at Scout camps, winter sports weekends on Mt. Hood, and horseback riding at Butte Creek Scout Ranch. Six hundred youth members also received camp scholarships to help them have an excellent summer camp experience.
Through collaboration with community organizations, the council brings positive character-building programs to boys in hard-to-serve areas. Young men and women in Scouting learn leadership, how to help others, and how to become a positive part of the community.
