2008 & 2009 Summer Camps

Summer camp weeks for 2008 are filling up rapidly. If your unit has not reserved a week yet, do so immediately so your Scouts have a great week of fun activities and rank work.  It is now possible to register your unit for 2009 camp weeks also.

2008 Day Camp

We are trying to have more involvement by troops and packs in day camp and need units

to sign up to set up the various activity stations. The units don’t have to run the

stations but if they wish to, that would be great.

Cub & Boy Scout of the Quarter

This program is a great tool for both recruitment and recognition of Scouts. We would

like to have each unit submit the name of a Scout quarterly who exemplifies the ideals of

Scouting. We will be publicizing the chosen Scouts in the district and council publications

and in the local newspaper. Nomination forms have been sent out via e-mail or are

available at roundtable. Please turn your nomination forms in at roundtable.

Advancement Extravaganza

This is a great opportunity to gain valuable training in both Cub and Boy Scout areas such

as advancements, ceremonies & recognition, awards, projects, boards of review,

record keeping & paperwork, etc. The classes are interesting and informative. The

classes will be held Saturday, Feb. 23 in Beaverton so put it on your calendar and

register in January. Get a partner and plan a carpool.

Philmont Trek

Council is offering a high adventure trip to the national scout ranch in Philmont, New

Mexico June 25-July 10, 2008. Crews of up to 10 Scouts will backpack one of the 36

routes for 11 days and visit many of the 28 camps offering activities such as rock

climbing, black powder, blacksmithing, horseback riding, spar pole climbing, etc. along the

routes. The cost is $1,585.00. Boys must be 14 by Jan. 1, 2008. Go to

“www.cpcbsa.org/register” in order to get more info and register. This is a trip of a

lifetime for a Scout.

TAKE YOUR FAMILY TO THE BEACH ON MEMORIAL WEEKEND Does your family like to go camping over Memorial Day Weekend? Leave all those noisy, unpredictable public campgrounds behind and head for the seclusion of Boy Scout beach-front property! Cascade Pacific Council is offering FAMILY CAMP at Camp Clark over Memorial Day Weekend!

As a members-only activity, your family is assured of a more peaceful and pleasant experience than you might have at a public campground, not to mention more elbow-room and friendly faces throughout the property.

Families will enjoy a variety of activities such as sand-castle building, beach walks to the tide-pools, sack-races, field games, and more. The weekend will be very loosely scheduled with an ‘open campus,' allowing your family to pick and choose from camp activities, head into town to visit local attractions, or just enjoy the quiet coastline for the holiday weekend. Sign up now; space is limited. www.cpcbsa.org/familycamp is the place to go to get more information.

GOODWILL DAY: MARCH 1, 2008

The first Saturday in March was established as the annual day for this joint service project. This project mobilizes Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from Longview, Washington to Albany, Oregon and from Tillamook to The Dalles. Youth members go door to door collecting clothing and collectibles that are given to Goodwill Industries uses the process of cleaning, mending, and retailing these goods to provide job training for disabled people. This is the largest single-day collection of clothing and non-perishable items in the nation and is part of the biggest job-training program for disabled Americans in the country.

This is a chance to teach Scouts about community service. They will be traveling in pairs, knocking on doors in their neighborhood, asking for donations of used goods to help people with disabilities. This is the kind of task that builds character, social skills, and caring – qualities that we endeavor to teach our youth. This project promotes Scouting and the good deeds that result from program activities. The Scouts will earn segments and patches, and are sure to have fun. So sign Scouts up this year for Goodwill Good Turn Day. District Goodwill Good turn chairs will be sharing additional information at local roundtable meetings.

NOW TAKING RESERVATIONS FOR DAY CAMP

For many Day Camp is a boy's first exposure to camp. We strive to give these boys a wonderful experience that will have them wanting to come back. For those who are returning for a second or third time we ensure that there are new and exciting activities for them to experience. For five days, participating Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts and WebelosScouts will travel to another time as they explore, learn and play as young men. While on this grand excursion they will discover new Scout skills, work on advancement and have a great time with new and old friends. During camp, these Scouts will have the opportunity to learn proper skills on our BSA accreditedBB and archery ranges. They will participate in games, crafts and a plethora of other Scouting fun. Adult leaders will have just as much fun as their Scouts as they participate in five days of fun. Current availability and reservation forms can be found on www.cpcbsa.org/availability. Go today to ensure your spot!

GOOD RE-TURN

For the month of February, the Nor'West Scout Shop will conduct a Uniform Drive to collect outgrown and surplus uniforms. This is a great way of giving back and recycling uniforms in order to make it easier for some of our youth to show their Scout pride.

We will accept uniform shirts, pants, and shorts only. Each donation will provide a $5.00 discount on a pair of Switchbacks or S2s. This is a one for one offer - meaning one piece of clothing equals one $5.00 discount on a pair of pants. For example, if a customer brings in three items they will receive $5.00 off each of the three pairs of Switchbacks/S2s - not $15.00 off of one pair."

2010 NATIONAL JAMBOREE

The Cascade Pacific Council Jamboree contingent will leave Portland, OR around July 20, 2010 and fly to Washington, D.C. We will visit such places as Arlington Cemetery, the Capitol, various monuments, the Smithsonian Institute, Gettysburg, Colonial Williamsburg and many other sites.

We will arrive at Fort A.P. Hill for the Jamboree encampment on Monday the 26th of July 2010. After a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the Jamboree, we may continue with a few more days of touring or return home immediately. The Cascade Pacific Council's tour will precede and/or follow the jamboree encampment. The tour portion of the trip will be 6-8 days long. Specific dates of the touring will be confirmed by June 2009. A Scout who has completed the 6th grade, or will be at least 12 years old and a 1st Class Scout by July 1, 2010, but not have reached his 18th birthday by Aug3, 2010 and lives and abides by the Scout Oath and Law and the jamboree code of conduct may participate in the Jamboree.
