WILLAMETTE DISTRICT - BSA - CAMPOREE 2001

GENERAL INFORMATION

*REGISTRATION -

Cubmasters, make sure this information is passed on to your Webelos and Bear Den Leaders. Get in Touch with a Troop or Two and arrange for your Webelos, and Bears, to join the Troop for Camporee. The Troop is the unit that registers for Camporee. The Troop needs to include the Webelos Scouts in its registration. Bear Scout dens that are coming just for Saturday STILL need to register through a Troop, but can compete on their own.

Webelos Scouts can spend both nights with a parent. They can form their own patrol or can be added to existing Boy Scout patrols. Bears are welcome to attend the competition on Saturday and stay through the campfire. Again, they can be their own patrol or part of an existing patrol. There are three basic steps in the registration process;

*Pre-Registration:

When you give us your Pre-Registration Information for your Troop, please give us an estimate of the number: Scouts, Adults, Patrols, and Tents. This will help us in our planning. There are deadlines to this phase, and Campsite Judging Score Sheet points hang in the balance

*Registration

This is best done at the Salem Service Center the Week before Camporee, to get the money part out of the way. When you arrive at camporee, only minor adjustments may then be needed. The Final Registration Form includes the Following: Please have the form completed before showing up at Camporee registration. Up-to-Date Site maps will be provided at registration.

*Check-in

The final step is when you arrive, go immediately to Camporee HQ. Check in will include the following steps:

Patrol Leaders will get maps of the site with the competition locations marked at the morning formation in front of the Stage. One map and one Patrol Competition Score Card will be provided (In a waterproof Baggie) for each patrol that will compete.

*CAMPOREE DUTIES - We will begin scheduling the Camporee duties at the Organizational Meeting in January, then at the Roundtables, second Thursday of each month, beginning in February. Every Troop will be expected to do their part. Duties include flag ceremonies, running the events, and assistance with running the Camporee. Come to Roundtable to get early pick, otherwise a task will be assigned to your Troop. Every Troop will have an event, and possibly a task to perform at Camporee.

*COMPETITIONS - Scoutmasters, make sure you contact your favorite Cub Scout Packs and invite their Webelos and Bear Scouts. Part of the Campsite Judging Score Sheet includes points for having Webelos Scouts with your Troop.

*CAMPFIRE - Each Webelos or Bear Den may present their own skit or song at the campfire. One of the events this year will be an audition for the campfire. Not all Patrols may be able to perform due to time limitations. All Patrols auditioning will earn points. Scoutmasters, be sure the skits are appropriate and follow Safe Haven Guidelines.

*EMERGENCY/MEDICAL - There will be a medical aid station near the Camporee headquarters shelter. Each Troop must have its own first aid kit and permission slips, including Medical Release Forms, for each Scout. Don't forget your Tour Permits, for the Cub Scouts as well as the Troop.

*FACILITIES - Each unit is responsible for all its equipment and food. Park Management asks that we not build fires except in existing fire places.

Willamette Mission State Park is about 6 miles north of Keizer on Wheatland Ferry Road. If you are coming from West Salem, you can cross the Willamette on the Wheatland Ferry and continue East to the park.

Water is available at the park, but units need to transport it to their own campsite. Each unit is responsible for keeping its site clean and packing out all trash. Do not use the park's trash containers (We will again ask the park Rangers to remove all of their containers). Take your own trash back with you. Everyone is responsible for keeping the KYBOs clean.

*PARKING - We ask that you do not park in other than the designated parking areas along the access road. If you must enter the Troop Camping areas with a vehicle to unload gear, we ask that you remain AT THE WHEEL, and minimize your time so others may unload. It is critical to the camporee atmosphere, and visibility of the Gateways that absolutely no vehicles are ever "Parked" unattended in the "Camping Circle"

*GENERAL RULES - The Camporee, like all Scout functions, is run with the Scout Oath and Law as its guide. Remember to ask permission before entering another Troop's campsite. Do not bring any electronic equipment (radios, games, etc.), sheath knives, fireworks, alcoholic beverages, firearms. Do not cut any trees or shrubs. Do not ditch your tents. We need to leave the park in better shape than it was Friday morning.

Two deep leadership must be maintained by all units. The camporee committee may be able to help with short term solutions if needs arise.

The Buddy System must be maintained at all times. The park will be open to the public throughout the day.

*EARLY DEPARTURE - If you are leaving Saturday night, please let the Camporee staff know when you register. Checkout will be during the awards ceremony Saturday. Be sure to turn in your Scoutmaster Evaluation and SPL Evaluation to receive the Camporee Patches.

All Scouts must remain on the Camporee grounds. If there is an emergency you must obtain permission from your Scoutmaster to leave. Scoutmasters must make sure the Camporee headquarters is immediately notified of any departures.

*WATER SAFETY - There is a water danger in various parts of the park. Any scout found near any of the open bodies of water will be asked to leave the camporee. These areas will be posted by the camporee staff, and communicated to the troop leaders at the Cracker Barrel on Friday night. The potential for injury will not be tolerated.

If you are close enough to throw something into the water,
