Scouting for Food is the largest one day event organized by the Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America. Each year, our Scouts, unit leaders, and parents collect canned food and other items for local food pantries. In Oregon and southwest Washington, more than 160,000 children under age 17 received emergency food assistance last year. Last year, a total of more than 400,000 individuals received emergency food boxes from Oregon Food Bank hunger relief agencies. Demands for emergency food are expected to increase as many low-income families have experienced a loss of Federal assistance.
Meanwhile, each year, Oregon Food Bank receives fewer donations from national food manufacturers and U.S. Government programs. The non-perishable food collected during food drives such as Cascade Pacific Council's Scouting for Food Day makes a big difference in your local community's ability to feed hungry children and their families.
Every First Saturday In December
Local area food banks will be teaming up with the Boy Scouts of America and volunteer agencies to collect food for those in need. The drive is recognized as the last major food drive of the year for northwest Oregon and southwest Washington area emergency food agencies.
It's Happening in Your Neighborhood
Local area Scouts will go door-to-door to collect canned goods and other non-perishable food for those in need from local residents through the greater northwestern regions. The donations will be taken by the Scouts to drop-sites at designated food pantries in their hometown or to the Oregon Food Bank where they will be distributed to local food agencies.
