Challenge Programs: Challenge Climbing

We are excited to offer several climbing adventures to Scout unit. Visit www.cpcbsa.org/register to register for any of these climbing adventures:

BSA Climbing Instructor Training

Taking your unit climbing requires more than just having the right equipment! It requires qualified instructors to ensure a safe trip.

By training as a BSA Climbing instructor you will be able to take Scouts out to experience the challenges of climbing & rappelling and have an active climbing program in your local unit or be active with district or council sponsored climbing/rappelling activities.

Participants must be 18 to gain instructor certification. (16 year old scouts can attend with an accompany adult.)

Smith Rocks Climbs

Experience climbing at its best! With over 1,500 routes Smith Rock provides a huge variety of climbing opportunities for experienced scouts. All trips are fully outfitted and lead by certified instructors.

Requirements:
Youth must have earned the climbing merit badge and have at least limited experience climbing. Adults must be capable of hiking daily a distance of more than one hour each way over large slopes and through cliff areas. (Units must have at least two participating adults).

When:
July 10-11
July 17-19
July 24-26
(All trips are limited to 10 participants)

Where:
Our home base for the weekend will be Skull Hollow campground.
(A map will be provided with directions before your trip.)

Fees:
All meals, permits, and gear is provided for $100 per person.

Mountaineering Clinics and Mt Hood Climb

New for 2009 is an exciting program that will culminate in possible summit climbs of Mount Hood (weather and safety permitting).

Participants are required to complete two clinics before attempting the mountain. First a classroom clinic at Scouters' Mountain, then an outdoor field clinic at Timberline Lodge.
