District - Scouting Terms

Scouting has it's own unique language with terms and acronyms that can be confusing to the new member. We will attempt to explain many of those terms here on this page. Lock-in - An overnight event for Cub Scouts, Lock-in as the name implies is a safe event where the scouts can meet and have fun on an overnight adventure. Cub scouts get to participate in many activities and see what the Boy Scouts units are doing as well. They also get to stay up all night (if they can) and watch movies. Camporee - Boy Scouts get to camp overnight and spend a day participating in activities and service projects. Webelo Scouts can participate in the day-time events.

Klondike - This is another event for Boy Scouts. It is like a Camporee only it happens in the winter snow. THis event is not for the faint of heart. It requires cold weather preparation by all participants and qualifies as a high adventure campout.

Pinewood Derby - This is an event for the Cub Scouts. The scouts make pinewood cars to specifications and then race to the finish to see who can make the fastest car, the coolest looking car etc.

Webelos Woods - This is an event for the Webelos Scouts. Scouts participate in an overnight camp and then spend a day of activity learning outdoor skills.

Wood Badge - Advanced training for adult leaders. Wood Badge appies the principles of the patrol method to adult training.
